Sally Storey
Design Director
Sally Storey, Design Director of John Cullen, developed her passion for lighting whilst training as an architect at Bristol University (1980 – 83). Now considered one of the country’s leading lighting experts, Sally heads up the lighting design team at John Cullen and spends much of her time travelling all over the world to design lighting schemes for individual and corporate clients. With her classical and understated approach to lighting, Sally has been responsible for designing numerous town houses, penthouses, apartments, country houses, villas, chalets and yachts around the world.
Sally has written three very successful, well-received books on the subject of lighting, often contributes to national and international press and is regularly asked to speak at top interior design and architectural events. House & Garden magazine included Sally in its “Who’s who of British design” for the end of the millennium – the only lighting designer to be included.

Lucy Martin
Design Director
Lucy had a successful career as a journalist specialising in design and finance, editing several magazines and working for a national newspaper, prior to completing a course at KLC. She began her lighting design career at LDI (1995) before moving to John Cullen Lighting in 1997, where she currently heads up the design team working on projects throughout the world. Lucy also lectures at design schools and has just published her first book entitled “The Lighting Bible”.
She was part of the first ever women’s and British womens’ successful expedition to the North Pole in 1996 and sailed around the world on the winning boat in the Millennium Round the World Race 1999-2000. It is this drive and determination that Lucy brings to all her work at John Cullen. In 2005 her scheme for a private London house won the prestigious Residential Award at the National Lighting Design Awards.

Alexandra Fry
Associate
Following completion of her degree in Art History (MA) at St Andrews University, Alex enrolled in a one year professional diploma at KLC where she now lectures. She joined the lighting design team in August 2002 and worked her way up to her current position of Associate. Alex’s continued interest in design and detail has been recognised by her winning entry of Best Lighting Project at the idFX awards 2010.

Sian Parsons
Senior Designer
After completing a fine art BTEC at Camberwell College of Art and Design specialising in 3D design, Sian worked as a Merchandising Officer for both St David’s Hall, Wales’s national concert hall and Laura Ashley. Returning to education, she completed an interior design diploma at Chelsea College, and worked in the industry as an interior designer for Fired Earth before joining John Cullen in 2005. Sian is now a Senior Lighting Designer working on residential projects around the UK and was responsible this year for the project management of the new showroom at 561-563 Kings Road.

Luke Thomas
Senior Designer
Luke was first introduced into the world of light while working towards a Diploma in Industrial Studies at a lighting design and manufacturing company. During his final years at university studying Product Design and Innovation he built on his practical knowledge and went on to develop a passion in this field basing several successful design projects on lighting for domestic use. After graduating with a first class honours degree Luke spent a short time as a freelance designer before joining John Cullen.

Tamara Fitzherbert
Senior Designer
Tamara worked as a freelance cook in both Australia and London before studying History of Art and Fine Art in Florence. Furthering her education she went on to Edinburgh College of Art where she specialised in jewellery and textile design before setting up a small business back in London. In 2009 she spent a year studying at KLC coming first in all four of the major projects. It was here where she came to realise how a room can be dressed with light and brought alive and came on to work at John Cullen at the end of her course.

Fay Greenhalgh
Lighting Designer
After renovating numerous properties, Fay trained at mechanical and electrical consultants where she worked on RIBA award winning projects such as The Library at Kings College Oxford, The Jerusalem Chamber at Westminster Cathedral and The Wedding Chapel at Blackpool. Fay also hand built a unique 20 meter lighting feature for an adult learning centre. Joining John Cullen in 2010, Fay enjoys tailoring lighting schemes to the individual client and project and bridging the gap between electrician and client by being able to explain in layman’s terms about new lighting technology and building regulations.

Max Barlow
Lighting Designer
Max’s first experience of lighting was with an event lighting company prior to commencing his degree in Cinema Photography and Television Studies at Leeds University. He graduated in 2009 with a 2:1 (BA) and started work with Finsbury doing financial PR in the city. Wanting to return to a more creative industry and further his interest in lighting, he studied at KLC before joining John Cullen in 2011.
